FAQ 2003 Archive

When can I bid?

Your bid time is listed on the IAFF 731 web site. You cannot bid until that time.

Am I on a special Team?

The special teams for the purposes of the bid are HazMat and EMT-I. Click here to view the HazMat team members, and click here to view the EMT-I's.

I have been promoted or hired recently. Can I bid?

If you were hired or promoted after 6 January 2002 you are not confirmed and may not bid. Click here for the latest list of these poor folks.

What is my “Bid period”?

That is the time that starts at your listed bid time, and extends for an additional 6 minutes. During this time, you may bid. You can change your mind and change your bid. After the period ends, you cannot change a bid that you make.

Do I have to bid during my bid period?

No. You can wait until later. However, after your bid period ends, others are free to bid, and they may take a spot you want.

Why would I wait?

This is the only way a "Red" member can “jump the fence”. After the last Green bid period has expired, all restrictions regarding the fence disappear, so Green stations become open.

Can I make Reservations?

Sure. E-mail a bid committee member with a list of your preferences. When your bid period arrives, they will give you the highest available preference from your list.

How do I bid?

During or after your bid period, either call the Union at 355-9010, or, be present at the Union hall.
